Letter to the Editor

This letter is directed towards Opinions. Everything else in The Oracle was excellent, and I tip my hat to News, Features, A&E, and Sports.

Alec, while I see your point – that many people are ignorant to other people’s faith – it is completely ridiculous and stubborn of you to find being wished “Merry Christmas” annoying.
I understand that it is your personal opinion, but you need to understand that people are trying to extend their feeling of happiness during the holiday season towards you. So while your understanding of other people’s faith may make you feel high and mighty, shouldn’t you understand that you can’t end ignorance and should accept the kindness of others, instead of pushing it away?

Personally, I am not Christian, nor do I celebrate Christmas at all (and yes I have heard of people celebrating Christmas without being Christian), but I find it nice when people go out of their way to wish me the best over the holiday season, regardless if they word it properly to fit my specific beliefs. You read too deeply into the words and not the emotions.

Kara, I see your point [about the lack of originality in this generation], but your opening argument is such garbage, no offense, that I almost stopped reading right then, but I decided to hear you out.

Your mistake was using a Shakespeare analogy. Let me give you a little heads up: Shakespeare, arguably the most influential man in the history of literature, has provided the backbone to the plots of all works since his time. There is no story that does not come from his genius.

Although The Lion King is so close to the exact storyline and the characters are borrowed and transformed into animals, it is a classic movie. It also adds some awesome concepts: “Hakuna Matata.” Also look at the target audience for Lion King… thought so.

But in the second half of your column, you do offer an excellent point about remaking books. I enjoyed your piece and believe it would have been top-notch if you ditched the
Shakespeare/Lion King nonsense.

Kaitlyn, I absolutely, 100 percent agree with you [in your point about independence]. Excellent job. One of your best. It’s a shame that those kids are too busy trying to be someone they’re not to listen to you. You offer excellent insight and I like your style of writing. Keep up the good work.

Kevin, I like it. Good point [about good experiences shouldn’t be limited by bad memories]. Overall it was a little on the drier side, but I think you did a good job with it. Your point is valid. Pretty nice, room for improvement.

Crystal, I agree 100 percent [about being satisfied with what you have]. Very well written; I thought it got the point across quickly and was an easy read (I mean that as a compliment). Keep up the good work.

Oh, I almost forgot. I actually liked the Titan Showdown this issue. Issues one, two, and three were kind of lacking.

Your boy,
TR
