The third song of the night is “Satisfaction” and Maine South students are boogying down. Halfway through the song, mid-dance move, the DJ stops the music and the dance adviser gets on the microphone.

According to Maine South senior Monica Rosenberger, “Everyone was booing. Our adviser told us everyone has to evacuate the west side of the building and go to the football stadium.”

Upon arrival at the dance, students had checked their coats and purses. Because of this no one had shoes or jackets and they were seated on the metal bleachers.

Maine South junior Rachael Oberhide said, “Half the people thought there was going to be a show. The other half thought it was Waukegan who we had just beat or Glenbrook South.”

GBS senior Alexa Mazza said she got a text message that night from an anonymous Maine South student saying, “Cool. Your school called our school and made a bomb threat.”

Mazza replied saying, “We have better things to do than make a bomb threat.”

After waiting on the bleachers for about an hour, a police car arrived to tell the students the reasons for the evacuation.

Oberhide recalled the cop saying there were three bomb threats called into the police station. “The first said, ‘20 minutes, Maine South is gone’. The second said, ‘Maine South better watch its f*ing back.’ And the third said, ‘19 minutes until Maine South blows up.’”

Following the police announcements, a few students had found unlocked doors and let all the students in to gather their belongings that were left behind. The faculty struggled to get students to leave the building once again.

Many students proceeded to go on with their plans for the remainder of the night, even though the dance was cancelled.

Later this year Kiss FM will be hosting a make-up homecoming for the Maine South students. The date is to be announced.
