Lothian

For Senior Andrew Lothian, life is purely music, but it hasn’t always been that way.
Lothian explains that he was hesitant about joining choir freshman year, saying, “I always liked to sing but I thought I’d get made fun of for singing. My brother told me I was bad when I was little so I never thought I was good enough.” Lothian did indeed join choir, and ever since freshman year, music has been his life.
As Lothian’s passion began to grow freshman year, he began experimenting with instruments like the guitar, drums and the piano.  He was inspired by his guitar teacher to record himself playing the guitar, which eventually led to the studio, now in his basement, which is called Alo Studios.
Lothian explains how the studio came to be, saying, “It began to build itself. As time has gone on I have bought more material which has now added up to take on the image of a recording studio.”
He records every day in his basement, but he isn’t the only one that gets use out of the studio. Alo Studios has become a small business for Lothian and on his website, web.mac.com/alostudios, there is information for anybody that is interested in recording.
The studio was originally started to help kids record for college auditions and school related projects, but it is now available to anyone.  Some groups and individuals who have recorded in Alo Studios include the following class of 2007 alums Alice Lee, Ryan Barron, Paul Henderson and current student group, Not-So Nine.
Lothian added, “I plan to put all of the music recorded in my studio on a C.D. which will be released this summer. This C.D. would include music from artists like Lee, Barron, and myself.”
In addition, Lothian is going to participate in Senior Project, and during this time he plans to record an album, Sounds from the Underground, which will be released in late May.
Music has played a huge role in Lothian’s life and he does not plan to stop after high school. He said, “I really don’t know what things would be like without music. It is my life.”
