Thumbs up, Thumbs down

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Thumbs up to “Shoot the Ducks” pop-up games. They truly enhance my MySpace experience. Quack. Click.
Thumbs up to Ms. Rounds’ child development classes’ baby project. Britney Spears could have learned a thing or two.
Thumbs up to last issue’s special prom advertisement graphic. Oracle? How about Pornacle?
Thumbs up to Mexico legalizing marijuana. We’ll send them [...]

The younger child syndrome

Friday, May 26th, 2006

“Oh you’re her sister?” If I had fifty dollars every time I heard that phrase, I’d solve the Glenbrook budget crisis. And really, I love my sister. She’s awesome. She’s the first person I call for anything. I say this wholeheartedly; she’s the best sister ever. No questions asked. But sometimes I still want to…injure [...]

Pessimism at its finest: the James Hague story

Friday, May 26th, 2006

I’ve never really looked at myself as much of an optimist. Not that I devote extended periods of time to staring into my own eyes, but when I looked in the mirror this morning, I don’t think optimist would have fallen under the list of adjectives for the moment. But if anything was ever going [...]

Attention: Tina made out with Brad!

Friday, May 26th, 2006

As the school year approaches its completion, we should all begin to feel really good about ourselves that we made it. I mean, it was rough, wasn’t it? All of that thinking with our heads, all of that writing with our hands. I don’t know about you, but it was the breathing with my trachea [...]

The GBS Oracle editorial staff would like to remind the GBS community to appreciate the last few days of the school year. Seniors are graduating, new freshman will be arriving, and no year will be quite like the last. Summer vacation brings upon us an excellent opportunity to ponder some changes that can go into [...]

Spark notes: study aid or cheater’s tool?

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Most students at GBS would say that Spark and Cliffs Notes are good things, that there really is not anything wrong with either of them On the other side, most teachers utterly despise both summaries.
Students and teachers seem to disagree on which is higher in value, the material or the grade.
Other students agree with Peretz, [...]

Chew on this: new ‘06-’07 lunch provider to fill students’ stomachs

Friday, May 26th, 2006

For typical Glenbrook South students, lunch in the cafeteria is a very routine matter. Monday: Bosco sticks, fries, and a Cherry Coke. Tuesday: Bosco sticks, fries, and a Cherry Coke. Maybe they’ll switch it up on Wednesday with a chicken patty, but for the most part, students confined to the cafeterias are eating the same [...]

Graffiti case continues

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Since The Oracle’s last assessment of the aftermath of the graffiti in the GBS courtyard, the administration is still investigating the matter.
Glenbrook South’s Principal Brian Wegley says that although it is a “police matter,” the school is continuing to share information with the authorities.

[shore] Thegreat dilemma: root for the enemy?

Friday, May 26th, 2006

The school year is winding down, which means that our seniors will be passing on to college. And for the few athletes with exceptional talent, they will be playing at the next level. One athlete from our area who has drawn a considerable amount of press is Glenbrook North superstar basketball player, Jon Scheyer. This [...]
