GBS students can now tune into “La Hora Zamora” for Spanish conversation and songs every Saturday at 2 PM on WGBK 88.5 FM.
Spanish 4 and Academy teacher Jorge Zamora started “La Hora Zamora” close to a month ago. The show has elements of both a talk show and a music station, with around six songs per show. However, he hopes it will be more of a student show than anything.
Zamora states that the program was, “A collective action between Dr. Daniel Oswold and myself. I just brought it up and he had all sorts of ideas. He said I could start it right away and told me that the slot was open.”
Zamora hosts the show along with alternating engineers Mark Shore and Scott Grodsky. In addition to Zamora, Shore, and Grodsky, each week there are up to three students from his classes on the show.
“Basically since there are not too many Spanish stations in the area, this is a good talk show for people who want to listen in Spanish,” says Shore, a junior.
The talk show aspect of the show usually involves Zamora and his students speaking in Spanish about everyday things. Topics of interest on the show include sports, movies, and school.
Zamora hopes that the broadcast will help students who want to learn more Spanish.
Zamora adds, “Since the show is not only broadcasted locally, but also live on the Internet, it helps in marketing the school itself.”
Zamora has hopes that the program will grow in popularity as he continues to run it.
“Since I also teach Academy, it will allow for current GBN students to be on the show as well, therefore providing insight into that school and making connections with our sister school. Hopefully in the future the show will be known around the country, not only here, and people will listen to and use it in their classrooms,” says Zamora.
